There's no denying I love an effortless braid. And because a simple three-strand braid was obviously never going to be my braid of choice; I’ve decided to try to do more with my hair, that isn’t just “whacking it up in a ponytail or a messy bun” – having said that, I do still love those styles and will continue to do them, but maybe just as a fall back. I have not just 1 but multiple braided hairstyles to show you. I am not one of those people that spends a lot of time on my hair. But today I am going to show you a little insight into the braids I love, that are quick and easy for times when I'm going out or just generally can't be bothered to do my hair!

I have recently taught myself how to do this thick, delicate and tightly webbed and twined braid know as 'The Mermaid Braid'. It is super simple and easy to do, even though it may not appear that way. And I have to say, this braid is definitely a top favourite of mine!

I start by gathering a section at the top of my head, brushing it through and tying it into a ponytail. You can leave it like this; I quite like to put out bits of hair to make it look slightly more messy. And then I create a regular three-strand braid all the way down this section, tying it off with a hair bobble at the bottom. I will then grab medium sections from both sides of my head and I'll curl the piece of hair away from my head, holding the hair on the curlers for around 8-10 seconds and leaving it to cool in my hand afterwards. Then twist the curl towards the braid, pulling it apart loosely to make the look slightly more messy - I think the aim of this hair style is not to be neat, it's just to be a bit messy and it doesn't have to look perfect. But then you simply just thread the pieces of hair through the three-strand braid, and you want to do that until you reach the very end of the braid. I think this looks super cool and pretty and it looks like you could have actually spend a long time doing it when in reality, it only took 10 minutes! And there you go, finished!

So this next one might require a bit of practice... Now a dutch braid sounds complicated, but it really isn't once you have practised it a couple of times and this will soon become a lot quicker and a lot easier for you. I feel like they have really come back into fashion this year and where I can, I have definitely got away with wearing them - I just think they're super cute!

What I do first is part my hair so that I have a middle parting ready for my braid - you can be really precise about this or you don't have to be, I just use my fingers to separate my hair down the back of my head and I keep one side of my hair tied into a hair bobble so that it is out of my way when I create the first braid... So I take a section of my hair from the top and spilt it into three - you want to take the piece from the outside, underneath and into the middle. Same again on the other side, underneath and into the middle and when you have done that once, you then want to start adding pieces of hair into the braid. Just think of it as being a French braid but in the opposite way - instead of going over the middle you are going under! I actually prefer to not look in the mirror when trying to do this braid and I think it can sometimes be the worst thing you can do as it becomes really confusing... Once I have finished both braids I really love to pull pieces of hair out and make it look slightly more messy!

This is a great hairstyle if you want to keep your hair out of your face, and also a brilliant one to do if you have damp hair before bed as you will wake up with such pretty beachy waves and it doesn't use any heat! But just for everyday I think it is really cute!!
